Car washing and polishing tips

Car washing

Car washing is perhaps the most economical way to keep your car looking good all the time, but it is very important to keep in mind a few little details when going about washing your car.
1. Use a good car wash shampoo, there are many available in the market, but make sure that you do not use one which has a detergent base, as this may tamper with the shine. Use those shampoos that have no effect on wax. If you are using a new product, test it first on a part of the car that is least visible, such as the areas below the door and so on.
2. Wet the car thouroghly using either running water or if you are using a wet cloth, make sure you never run the cloth dry and wet most frequently around the dirty areas which normally are below the rubbing beading on the doors. Don not use excessive force to remove stubborn dirt this may cause severe scratches.
3. Use the shampoo in patches, do not proceed by trying to put shampoo on the entire car at once, start shampooing from the top and do individual parts. Example: begin with the roof, shampoo it and rinse the shampoo, then proceed to all the glasses.
4. As you proceed further and further to the bottom, it is adviced to use water in excess as the areas below the door beeding will tend to have more dirt. Work on smaller individual areas and concentrate on cleaning the running board(the curved portion below the door) thoroughly as this is one of the most ignored areas of your car.
5. After you have completed the washing, proceed towards cleaning off the water that has remained from the washing. Follow the same order as you did with the washing, and use a clean cloth or leather that is available commercially for car washing. In the event that you have left a part of the car unwashed, do not try to rub away the dirt with the dry cloth, use adequate water to first wipe away the dirt and only then use the dry cloth.
6. After drying, you will notice swirl marks or marks of water droplets on all glass surfaces, use a commercially available automotive glass cleaner to remove these.
For instance, did you know that you could scratch your car quite badly while you wash your car? There are many who believe that dusting off is the best way to keep the car clean. Forgive my sarcasm, but it is exactly the same thing as rubbing the paint off your car using a sand paper! Its simple, when you use a soft cloth to take off the dust, the dust ends up rubbing all over your car and these fine dust particles cause scratches and they are the reason that you will find circluar marks on flat surfaces of the car. This is best observed when the car is parked in sunlight. These scratches will rub off the clear coat which is something like a transparent cover on the paint. This coat gives the luster for your car. Continous rubbing will lead to a very dull car.
