Hyundai santro xing review - Ride and handling |
Tall boy design as we know lack form factor, some may say that they have their own version of the form factor. Leave that as it may be, the tall boy design plays truant with the handling of the car, and in order to make the handling good, the suspension is made hard. This plays foul with the ride of the car. So, is it true that tall boys don't ride or handle!
To an extent, yes. But due to the advantages the tall boy design offers to commuting within town, lots of effort is made to utilise the advantages of the design while downplaying its problems. The santro has taken a rather technologically sophisticated route, using Mcpherson strut with stabilizer bar layout up front and torsional beam axle with 3 link offset coil spring & hydraulic damper at the back.
The layout helps with good handling all round and although the car does roll significantly more than the wagon R, it does feel more grippy, due to the wider 155/70R13 radial tyres all round. The above tested car also came with standard 13" alloy wheels that help furthermore. The downside lies with a slightly more bumpy ride at the back when compared to the maruti.
Overall a very nice car with excellent quality all round. The nice niches here and there do help with storage for small items like tissue papers, mobile phones and so on. One grouse is that the sense of space is reduced due to the constant obstruction posed by the dashboard against the passengers legs. We would like to see an LPG option soon too but Hyundai have not indicated anything to this effect. Buy it if you have a small family and will be using for regular in town run abouts. |
